Precision Alignment Solutions

Optimizing Shop Production with Reliable Joining Components

Efficiency in the assembly department relies on components that fit perfectly every time. We provide dowels and biscuits manufactured from high-quality hardwoods to ensure dimensional stability and superior resin absorption. These products are selected for their consistent sizing, which prevents the frustration of loose joints or split panels during the assembly process. By sourcing your joining components alongside your core sheet goods and adhesives, you benefit from a consolidated supply chain that ensures every element of your cabinetry build is supported by professional-grade materials.

Fluted Wood Dowels

High-Performance Dowels for Automated and Manual Insertion

Our fluted wood dowels are designed specifically for the cabinetry trade, featuring multi-groove designs that allow air and excess glue to escape during insertion. This prevents hydraulic back-pressure that can cause panels to split while ensuring a uniform distribution of adhesive along the entire length of the dowel. Available in standard diameters and lengths, these dowels are ideal for carcass construction and face frame assembly in high-output shops. The compressed wood fibers expand slightly when they come into contact with water-based glues, creating a mechanical bond that is exceptionally resistant to racking and shear forces.

Joining Biscuits

Increasing Glue Surface Area for Stronger Plate Joinery

For projects requiring fast alignment and increased joint strength, our wood biscuits offer a reliable solution for panel glue-ups and miter joints. Manufactured from compressed beechwood, these biscuits are designed to expand when they absorb moisture from woodworking glue, locking the joint firmly in place. This expansion provides a high level of lateral strength while allowing for slight adjustments during the clamping process. Ideal for both solid wood and engineered panels, our biscuits provide a professional alternative to mechanical fasteners, resulting in a clean finish with no visible hardware on the exterior of the cabinetry.

Technical Guidance for Dowel and Biscuit Joinery

Achieving a perfect bond with dowels and biscuits requires attention to moisture content and hole depth. Below are answers to common questions regarding our joining components.

Fluted dowels feature longitudinal grooves that provide a path for excess glue and air to escape as the dowel is driven into a blind hole. This prevents the "piston effect" which can create enough pressure to crack a panel. Additionally, the flutes increase the total surface area for the glue to bond, resulting in a significantly stronger and more reliable structural joint.

Biscuits increase the total glue surface area within the joint and provide cross-grain reinforcement. Because they are made of highly compressed wood, they expand when they react with the moisture in PVAL glues, creating a tight mechanical fit that aligns the faces of the panels perfectly while adding substantial shear resistance to the assembly.

It is critical to store these components in a dry, climate-controlled area. Because they are designed to expand with moisture, dowels and biscuits stored in high-humidity environments may swell prematurely, making them difficult to insert into pre-drilled holes. Keeping them in sealed containers or their original packaging until use ensures they maintain their precision dimensions.

Yes, biscuits are an excellent choice for engineered wood products as they distribute the stress of the joint over a wider area than a screw or nail. This helps prevent the core of the MDF or particle board from crumbling under tension, making them a preferred method for joining cabinet gables, bottoms, and fixed shelving in commercial casework.

These numbers correspond to the physical dimensions of the biscuit. #0 is the smallest and is used for narrow frames or thin materials; #10 is a medium size for general applications; and #20 is the largest, providing the most surface area for standard 18mm or 19mm cabinetry panels. Selecting the largest biscuit that the material thickness allows will always yield the strongest possible joint.
