Technical Guidance for Wood Veneer Edge Tape

Proper application and finishing are key to a long-lasting veneer edge. We have compiled these frequently asked questions to help you achieve the best possible results with our pre-glued wood tape.

For most hot-melt adhesives, a medium-high heat setting on a standard iron is sufficient to melt the glue without scorching the wood veneer. It is important to move the iron steadily along the edge and follow immediately with a wooden pressure block to ensure the veneer is pressed firmly into the adhesive and the substrate while it is still hot.

Yes, wood veneer edge tape is quite flexible and can be applied to both internal and external curves. For tighter radii, you may find it helpful to slightly pre-heat the wood to make it more pliable. Once the tape is adhered and the glue has set, it will hold the shape of the curve perfectly, providing a continuous wood look on complex panel designs.

The edge of your panel should be clean, dry, and free of dust. While the adhesive is designed to bond to standard raw edges, a light sanding to remove any loose fibers or significant saw marks will provide a smoother surface for the glue to grab onto. Ensuring the edge is square and flat will also result in a cleaner, more professional-looking corner after trimming.

One of the benefits of heat-activated adhesive is that it can be softened again if necessary. If you notice a misalignment shortly after application, you can simply re-apply heat to the area, reposition the tape, and press it back down. However, this should be done sparingly, as excessive re-heating can eventually dry out the adhesive and weaken the bond.

Since our tape is made from real wood veneer, it is compatible with most standard woodworking stains, including water-based, oil-based, and alcohol-based products. We always recommend performing a test on a scrap piece of edged material to ensure the stain absorption matches your main panels and to verify that the moisture in the stain does not affect the adhesive bond.
